The Vallathol Award, a prestigious literary honor established in 1991 by the Vallathol Sahithya Samithi to recognize significant contributions to Malayalam literature, was last awarded in 2019 to writer Paul Zacharia. Since then, there have been no subsequent recipients, and no official announcements have been made regarding the continuation or discontinuation of the award. The reasons for this hiatus remain unclear, as no public statements have been issued by the organizing committee.
It's worth noting that the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in early 2020, disrupted numerous cultural and literary events worldwide. This global crisis may have impacted the operations of the Vallathol Sahithya Samithi, potentially leading to the suspension of the award. However, without explicit confirmation from the organizers, this remains speculative.
As of now, there is no information available about the future of the Vallathol Award. For the most accurate and up-to-date details, it is advisable to consult official communications from the Vallathol Sahithya Samithi or reputable news sources.
