Miss World pageant 1980 was held on November 13, 1980 in London, UK. Gabriella Brum was declared the winner. However, she resigned 18 hours later, stating that her boyfriend was against her holding this title. She claimed that this was because there was intense pressure from the media. But, there were allegations that she had posed nude for a magazine, which was against the decorum of the pageant. The crown was handed over to Kimberley Santos, the first runner-up. Tragedy struck when her boyfriend shot himself upon hearing the news of her signing a modeling contract to go to Japan. Fearing an impending separation, he took this drastic step. Kimberley was devastated and took a long time to recover. Presently, she is involved in charity work and is a court-appointed representative. She takes care of children who are in the care of Guam’s social services.
