Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)
1. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)is a nationwide scheme launched by Indian government in August 2015
2. This scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 1st Independence Day speech on 15th August 2014
3. It is also known as Prime Minister’s People Money Scheme
4. This aims for Financial Inclusion to ensure access to the following financial services
  • Banking
  •  Savings& Deposit Accounts
  •  Remittance
  •  Credit
  • Insurance
  • Pension
5.  Financial inclusion – it is the delivery of financial services at affordable costs to sections of disadvantaged and low – income segments of society
6.  PMJDY is under the supervision of Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance
7.  13 Crore bank accounts were opened under this scheme so far
8. Guinness World Records recognized the achievements of PMJDY for opening 18,096,130 bank accounts in just one week of the scheme by the Indian Banks
9. Under PMJDY individuals of both the rural or urban areas can get a bank account without depositing any amount
10. Indian citizens above the age of 10 years can open the account with zero balance
11. Account can be opened in any bank or Business correspondent (Bank Mitr)
12. The account holders will be given a RuPay debit card which can be used at all ATMs
13. Life Insurance under PMJDY
  • Account holders will be given Rs. 30000 worth insurance coverage
  • It also has accidental insurance coverage of over Rs. 2,00,000
14. Loan Benefits under PMJDY
  • The account holder can take loan benefit of up to Rs. 5000 from the bank after 6-months from opening the account
15. PMJDY allows its account holders to check balance and transfer funds through normal cell phones which is more affordable to the general economy.
