1. A prominent Scheduled Caste leader born in Maharashtra he waged consistent fight for the rights of the untouchables and represented the depressed classes at the Round Table Conference held at London.
2. He raised, demand for separate electorates for the scheduled castes which was vehemently opposed by Gandhi.
3. He signed Poona Pact in 1932 and amicably resolved the issue.
4. In 1943, he formed the Scheduled Caste Federation.
